                                        Breaking News!

Highlanders knocked out of ABC super 8 cup

                                19-08-08 Staff Reporter

Not that its not possible, but just…league debutants lengthens have shown Bulawayo giants Highlanders the exit door from the ABC super 8 cup following a one nil victory registered at Barbourfields stadium. The victory becomes the second for ‘the happy people’ who beat bosso by the same margin in a league match on 20 July.

Ironically it was after the one nil premiership loss to Lengthens that Highlanders axed coach Methembe Ndlovu. The same fate however has not met Reuben Tsengwa although fans are already calling for his head.

Striker Patrick Makuvaza became the hero for the visitors as his 26th minute strike ensured that fancied highlanders takes no further participation in the tournament. Had it not been for a disallowed Richard Mteki goal, then the final scoreline would have read 2-0 in favour of the visitors.

Lengthens coach Collin Mahara said the victory will go a long in inspiring his lads, “well beating Highlanders again is indeed something that will give the boys a boost. Highlanders is a big club and for us to beat them twice that’s good,” he said.

“We still need to work hard for the upcoming games though,” he added.

Highlanders team manager Emmert Ndlovu said his team had improved although they would have been happy with a victory.

“We created a number of chances and played well, of course we are not happy that we lost the match,” he said

Lengthens will now meet Chapungu in the semi-final while Dynamos and CAPS United will clash in the other.

Meanwhile in the CBZ premiership matches played over the weekend bottom placed Lancashire steel found their mark beating motor action 2-0 courtersy of a Philip Makanje brace. Elsewhere Njube Sundowns were the better side emerging victors over Gunners by 2 goals to nil
